I have learned that the UDL Lesson Plan Builder can be a valuable, but time-consuming tool to use. I think it is time consuming, because it makes you stop and think about every possible learning style and how to reach each of those learning styles. I do believe the time spent upfront by building a UDL Lesson Plan will reduce time spent with reteaching, classroom management, and off-task behaviors. I know many of my colleagues will not spend the time that it took me to create this week’s UDL Lesson, so my goal is to locate or create lessons that they can use.
UDL offers flexibility to teachers by providing strategies and materials to reach a diverse range of learners. UDL supplies teachers with a multitude of strategies and resources that will assist them with reaching and teaching their students. Creating UDL lessons can be time consuming when done properly, but the time spent is well worth the affective networking opportunities. Students are more motivated when lessons appeal to their particular learning styles, so the UDL Lesson Plan Builder is a great tool for teachers to use. Ultimately, student motivation plays a key role in the success and effectiveness of a teacher’s lesson. I look forward to using the UDL Lesson Plan Builder and CAST website to assist my colleagues with technology integration. I also look forward to using the UDL lessons with my students. -Amy
