Standard 3.2: TAC Chapter 247 Educators’ Code of Ethics

How would you respond to a violation of Standard 3.2 of the TAC Chapter 247 Educators' Code of Ethics?
(B) Standard 3.2. The educator shall not intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly treat a student or minor in a manner that adversely affects or endangers the learning, physical health, mental health, or safety of the student or minor.

Violation of Standard 3.2 can have several consequences.  The educator can be reported to Child Protective Services (CPS), written-up by administration, investigated by the district, disrespected by colleagues and community members, arrested, and lose their certification.

As an administrator, I would have a face-to-face meeting with the teacher who has violated Standard 3.2.  I would listen to other teachers’ concerns regarding what they have witnessed the violator do or say.  I would also formally and informally observe the teacher more often.  If the violation continued, I would offer opportunities for classroom management professional development.  All of my efforts and responses would be properly documented for future use; because I have heard some administrators use the excuse of improper documentation for not being able to get rid-off unethical employees.

EDLD 5398ET Week 3 Web Conference

The web conference this week was insightful, but suffered from audio technical difficulties.  It took a while to get Dr. Abernathy's connectivity issues to clear-up, but we were able to gain useful information through group chat.  We discussed joining ITSE and TCEA organizations for opportunities to publish our work.  We also discussed the Principal parts of the merged degree program.

I was surprised that so few participants joined the conference this week.  I know you only get "1 point" for joining the conference, but I enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with others and find humor in our technical difficulties.  I look forward to the next few conferences, because they always bring forth new knowledge.

EDLD 5370 ET5398 Week 2 Web Conference

The web conference this week gave us an opportunity to speak with Dr. Abernathy and get clarification on the Educational Technology Leadership and Principal programs.  We had the opportunity to ask questions about the merging of the two programs.  We also received feedback on our eportfolios.
I enjoyed the web conference, because it was short and to the point.  I was able to get my questions answered regarding the Action Research Report and Comprehensive Exam.  Dawn reviewed my eportfolio link http://azbylut.wikispaces.com/Principal+Certification+Documents and said, "Great job!"  I think the emails that she has sent out this week has really helped us.
I look forward to future conferences.  It was exciting to know that I am on the right path towards graduation.
